FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SSR Engineering, Inc.
Provides Integrated Port Security System for the Panama
Canal
Panama Canal, Panama – June 15, 2005 – SSR Engineering,
Inc. working with Science Applications International
Corporation (SAIC) provides an integrated Radar
Surveillance, Tracking, and Camera System to help secure
ships traveling through the Panama Canal. The system
simplifies surveillance by alerting the operator and
automatically controlling Long Range Infrared and
Optical cameras to follow vessels entering unauthorized
areas.
At
the heart of the system is SSR Engineering’s innovative
PC Based Radar Processor (PC-RP™), Composite Tracker,
Remote Display Operator Position (RDOP™), and Camera
Manager. These same components are used throughout the
United States in US Coast Guard, US Navy, and several
other government installations.
The
PC-RP is a Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) Radar
Processor capable of interfacing with virtually any
Military or Commercial Radar. Since the PC-RP is based
on standard PC hardware, it provides a cost effective
solution that greatly reduces long-term maintenance
costs. The ability to utilize a standard network to
distribute the Radar Data from a remote site to a
control center simplifies the installation and use of
the system.
The
Composite Tracker correlates Automated Identification
System (AIS) data, Radar data from all Radars, and other
sensors to produce an integrated Track that is
maintained across the entire Canal.
The
Panama Canal Operations Center utilizes SSR
Engineering’s RDOP as the Graphical User Interface (GUI)
to monitor and control the system. The RDOP presents a
complete view with a Dual Headed Display to
simultaneously monitor the Radar Data and Chart Data
along with the corresponding Camera Video picture of
vessels throughout the Canal.
The
Camera Manager can control a variety of cameras units
including: Pelco Esprit, COHO, ISAP, Cyclops, Quickset
and Pelco mounts. The primary function of the Camera
Manager is to automatically control the cameras to
follow Composite Tracks. The Camera Manager can also be
used to point the Cameras to specific geographic
locations.Contact:
